SASGO goes carbon neutral
Sustainability is a journey. We put a great deal of store in measuring our efforts through aligning ourselves with leading sustainability bodies that demand best practice operations and waste management processes. In March 2023 SASGO made a major step forward in our journey, we achieved Carbon Neutral status.
Delivering on a plan
Being Carbon Neutral is all about delivering on a plan. Having that makes it easy to set goals and work towards measuring and reducing emissions.
There were 3 elements for us to focus on:
Direct emissions: Activities owned or controlled by the company that release emissions straight into the atmosphere. This would be mainly our vehicle fleet along with any other machinery we may use.
Energy Indirect: Emissions being released into the atmosphere associated with our consumption of energy (electricity and gas). These are direct emissions but occur out of our control. So this would be energy used at all our locations.
Other Direct: Emissions that are a consequence of our actions, which occur at sources we do not own or control. This is waste management, so recycling and general waste.
The recording of the data highlights our performance and sets the goals for the future.
How the scheme works
Once the data was all recorded the Emissions Report was produced. This highlighted our performance and sets our goals for the future, so that our carbon neutral journey could continue.
We then purchased credits to offset our emissions. These credits are used to support the Carbon Neutral Britain Fund. This fund supports projects such as wind, solar, hydro and cook stove projects around the globe within areas where focus is required to change behaviours and help people develop a different way of thinking when it comes to helping our planet.
We want to play our part in helping our industry reach its carbon emission goals. We have aligned our operations with organisations like Recofloor, and were delighted to be awarded Recofloor Distributor of the Year in 2023. We also see throughout the organisation the importance of FORS Silver Accreditation and achieving that for a second year is something the team are proud of.
