The Trends from Clerkenwell Design Week 2023
What is Trending from CDW 2023?
Our marketing team visited Clerkenwell Design Week last week with a view to sharing the latest developments in flooring with you. We witnessed talks from industry leaders such as Interface and demonstrations from skilled tradespeople in the Altro showroom. Noticeably, we observed similar themes from nay flooring industry businesses displaying their latest ranges.
Embracing Biophilic Designs

What is Biophilic Design?
The concept of biophilic design has been around for decades, with its main purpose being to create or enhance the connection between the user and nature. It is more than simply including plants in designs of an interior, it has much deeper roots than this. The introduction of biophilic designs has been proven to have health, environmental, and economic benefits for the end-user.
Biophilic Design at CDW 2023
Several large brands such as Miliken, Shaw, and Interface have released ranges that take inspiration from the world around us this year. However, what caught our eye was the fact single ranges had multiple designs within them 3 or 4 patterns, that like nature transitions - think mirroring woodland or shoreline. These designs create a flow in any environment.
Softer Colour Pallets

Why a Softer Colour Pallet?
From discussions with industry experts throughout the week, we found that buyers are making bolder choices when it comes to colours and designs. Again, what was noticeable though was the choice of subtle, soft, natural colours. 'Clay' and soft red colours and other natural colours were a constant across CDW 2023. These like greys, we believe will have longevity.
Driven By Demand
Brands such as Shaw, Interface, and Milliken have introduced several new ranges that have embraced these pastel tones. Many of the brands that have introduced these pastel colour options have said that they have seen a rise in demand for colours that are inspired by nature and are subtle in their appearance. We saw lots of overlap from brands launching biophilic ranges and introducing these new pastel tones to enhance the natural feel of their designs.
The Re-emergence of Resimercial

What is Resimercial Design?
The long discussed topic of Resimercial, which initially became relevant in 2018, have risen back to fame due to the COVID-19 pandemic changing the work environment for many people. This could help to explain the softer colour pallet and biophilic designs being adopted across the industry. As many are looking to create a warm, homely working environment for their offices. The word itself, Resimercial, is a combination of "Residential" and "Commercial".
Nearly every showroom our team visited during CDW 2023 presented new designs created with the concept of resimercial environments in mind.
